Functional, Real-Life & Client focused Speech Pathology with Walker Welsh in The Sunshine Coast & Gympie

Hi, I’m Walker, a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with extensive experience in adult neuro-rehabilitation and neurodevelopmental differences, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

I bring a deep clinical understanding to my practice, working extensively alongside people who are recovering from Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and progressive neurological conditions such as MND, Huntington’s Disease, MS, and Parkinson’s Disease. In addition, I support adults with developmental disabilities, including ASD, intellectual disability, and lifelong communication differences, providing tailored interventions that address social communication, functional communication, and complex behavioural presentations.

My expertise lies in managing high-complexity cases, including complex swallowing, complex communication needs, AAC implementation, and supporting complex behaviours. I have experience implementing and optimising AAC systems for both acquired and developmental communication needs, ensuring systems are practical, personalised, and embedded into daily life.

I provide mobile services to adults across the Gympie to Caloundra region, supporting both private and NDIS clients in their own homes and community environments.

I work with adults to develop meaningful, functional communication and swallowing goals that make a real difference in everyday life. My approach to therapy is client-focused and collaborative: I tailor therapy to each person’s strengths, priorities, and daily environments, ensuring therapy is practical, relevant, and empowering.

All services are grounded in evidence-based practice and designed to support real-world outcomes, helping participants build skills, confidence, autonomy, and independence in the areas that matter most to them.

How I Can Support You In Everyday Life

Functional Communication Therapy and Assessment

Assessment and therapy focused on improving everyday communication skills for real-life situations, including neuro rehabilitation for acquired brain injury, stroke, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Support is tailored to individual goals, strengths, and environments, using evidence-based strategies to enhance confidence, participation, and independence at home, work, and in the community.

Swallow Assessment, Dysphagia Management, & MTMP

Comprehensive assessment and management of swallowing difficulties, with a focus on safety, education, and quality of life. Support is tailored to individual needs and goals, using evidence-based strategies, education, and Mealtime Management Plans (MTMP) to promote safe and confident eating and drinking in everyday settings.

Neurological Degenerative Support

Ongoing assessment and therapy to support adults living with progressive neurological conditions. Intervention focuses on maintaining communication and swallowing function for as long as possible, adapting strategies over time, and supporting meaningful participation and quality of life through person-centred, evidence-based care

AAC

Assessment and support using both low-tech and high-tech AAC for individuals with developmental and acquired communication challenges, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and progressive neurological conditions. AAC support is tailored to each person’s strengths, goals, and environments, using evidence-based tools and strategies to promote effective communication, participation, and independence in everyday life

Complex Communication Needs

Specialised assessment and therapy for adults with significant communication challenges, including those arising from developmental conditions, acquired brain injury, stroke, or progressive neurological disorders. Therapy is personalised and evidence-based, aiming to unlock each person’s potential, improve meaningful interaction, and support confidence and independence in daily life
